A lifelong member of the Champaign-Urbana community, Carter Billingsley joined Legacy Legal as an attorney in August 2024. He concentrates in Estate, Tax, and Business Planning as well as estate and trust administration.
Carter graduated from Parkland Community College in Champaign before receiving his teaching degree from Southern Illinois University of Carbondale. From there, Carter spent the next five years teaching abroad before returning to Illinois to graduate Magna Cum Laude from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2021. While at UIUC, Carter earned several CALI Awards for the top-performing student in Federal Income Tax, Introduction to Transactional Practice, and Law Firm Management.
With a client-centered approach, Carter takes the time to understand clients’ personal and financial situations. Carter takes pride in his reputation for providing practical, compassionate advice and guiding clients through decisions involving asset distribution, tax mitigation, and charitable giving. His background as an educator helps Carter break down, simplify, and explain these topics to the families he serves. Whether helping clients establish living trusts, navigate probate, or develop succession plans for family-owned businesses, Carter brings a detailed-oriented approach and a commitment to securing their financial legacies.
Away from the practice of law, Carter enjoys reading, gardening, playing the saxophone, and all things Illini. Carter is also an avid outdoorsman, and can often be found roaming one of the many state parks in Central Illinois with his wife Brittney and dog Teddy.
